Frames from San Francisco

My time in San Francisco was heavenly. Traveling alone is exhilarating and refreshing; it gave me new perspective and insight into life and work. Traveling alone, and I don’t mean jumping on a plane to a destination where family and friends await, is a practice we should all become familiar with.

I met new friends, dined with old ones, wandered the city and stayed in a studio-sized hotel room where the sink was in the bedroom. And for those of you familiar with my old digs on the Upper East Side, it was like traveling back in time…but at least the bathtub was in a separate room.

What did I do while I was away? Here area few frames—most of which highlight food, architecture or my obsession with California foliage—that tell most of the story.

I also attended a conference, visited my favorite floral designer (Studio Choo), pined for an area rug from Peace Industries, wore scarves and dreamt of fall, sat in the sun, indulged on salted caramel ice cream, ate lunch on an ironing board turned dining table and my biggest adventure of all was trekking to Oakland to visit the remarkable, SOM-designed Cathedral of Christ the Light.

I’m home and happy, having indulged my adventurous itch, and I’m ready to take on all that lies ahead.

What fun travel does everyone have to look forward to? A last-minute summer getaway, perhaps?

I’m a San Francisco gal by way of Mississippi, and I recognized most of your photos. . . alamo square park, hayes valley, bi-rite ice cream and maybe even rainbow grocery?? I’m hoping for 2 out of 4. . .

I’m off to Paris, Edinburgh and London next month, and I plan to take as many pictures as ounces of cheese and wine consumed.

Thanks for the lovely photos!

Hi there, Shannon, welcome! Your upcoming travel abroad sounds delightful, I can’t wait to see your images :) So, your record is actually better than you guessed. You got 3 out of 4 correct! I’m not sure about Rainbow Grocery — where is that? I took a bunch of the images at The Ferry Building farmers’ market, which happens to be one of my most favorite places ever!
