Frames from Our Weekend

Hubby bought a sailboat on Friday. It’s not an actual boat; it’s just one that sits on the mantel. Considering all the time I’ve recently spent paring back in Living with Less, I was less than thrilled with its sudden arrival. But once he removed the sailboat from its shopping bag and I saw its beautiful blue hull, I fell in love. Since we both adore the purchase, we placed it on the mantel and then dreamt of the day when we could have a boat of our own.

I’m still not sure where Saturday went. All of the sudden it was 11 am and we were still in our pajamas. We’d read the paper, sat on the porch and then it was almost lunch. I do love mornings like that, when we have the luxury of loosing track.

I discovered these lovely jonquil varieties in our backyard shortly after hubby headed out to the garden center. They weren’t there last week; I’m pretty certain they arrived with the recent rain. Aren’t they brilliant?

Friends from both the neighborhood and the city came for dinner on Saturday night. It was so fun: We had tons of laughs, I gave pottery lessons and we dreamed of giant chocolate and vanilla birthday cakes. After dinner we went into town for ice cream, a favorite Saturday night activity, and then headed home where the boys enjoyed a cigar while the gals indulged in gossip magazines.

Hubby spent much of Saturday filling empty pots with all sorts of plants. I have no idea what they are, that’s his thing, but they were so sweet I wanted to share. The back patio, front porch and back steps now abound with colorful life; I’m so incredibly thankful it’s spring.
