Frames from Our Weekend

I love being in our home during a thunderstorm. I open the windows in the kitchen, dining room and living room and usually head to the porch to listed to the thunder and the pitter patter of the rain. Our home has pronounced eaves that allow us to keep the windows open during such conditions. The fresh air fills the space and we cozy down for a while.

Sunday was no different. The afternoon was bright and cheery, the tulips were out and the sky was bright blue. As the day headed towards evening, I went to the basement for a little pottery while hubby continued reading in the living room.

I peeked out the basement window to delightfully discover a storm rolling in. It had become foggy within the past hour and the sky was no longer blue. I secretly hoped for a rain storm, but I went back to work, throwing small plates that perfectly nestle. They won’t have feet but have a nice pronounced lip for function.

I wrapped up my wheel work and just as we finished moving the kiln, the skies opened. The sunny day had turned and we were delighted to head where we love being most.

The storm was lovely. The rain was loud and steady and the thunder grew in intensity. We sat for over an hour and it never let up. We talked about the summer, the vacations we hope for and we easily lost track of time. Sam was there, sleepily lying on the back of the couch.

Our stomachs growled and Ed mentioned food. I headed to the kitchen where I put rice on the stove and thinly sliced a cabbage and sautéed it with ground juniper berries, garlic and sea salt.  I added a little soy sauce and honey for good measure. We ate the easy dish on the porch and soaked up the last few hours of our Sunday.

How was your weekend? What did you enjoy?
