Seed Vase Project from Davis Studio

by Landis Carey on February 2, 2011

The Seed Vase Project from Davistudio aims to remind us we are not disconnected from where goods originate or how they were created.  Rather, these tiny bud vases, many no more than 4 inches tall, were numbered and distributed to buyers around the world, sequentially connecting each owner.  Living in New Jersey, I own vases 1386 and 2002, but vase 2003 might be in Hong Kong or even rural Indiana.  This project connects in ways no mass-produced good can.

What do I love more than my purple and pink porcelain seed vases?  The way I acquired them and subsequently, in quite the kismet fashion, met their creator, Mary Ann Davis.
